Resumed fifth session of the Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the UNCLOS on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction was held at the United Nations Secretary-General in New York between February 20 and March 3, 2023. DEHUKAM researchers Berilşah KOCABIYIK and Seyhan Gül YILMAZ participated the BBNJ Conference on behalf of Türkiye. The draft agreement on the protection of biodiversity in the high seas, which has been worked on for more than 10 years at the Conference, was completed. With the adoption of this agreement, a very important step has been taken at the international level in protecting the living life in the oceans and seas.
